The Line Up: Best Sustainable Wool Coats to Consider this Autumn + Winter
Get something nice for both you and the planet this fall as you gear up your wardrobe for the season. My favorite thing about buying sustainably is the challenge of debate and commitment when I shop for new items in my closet. When shopping, I ask myself the following questions; do I need this, where is it from (think: the famous #whomademyclothes movement) as well as what is it made out of?
By asking myself these questions, I tend to make purchases less, of higher quality and are more authentic to me. They then become more cherished and last longer than the quickie you buy from that high street fast fashion shop. This season, I am keen to replace a coat I lost (hopefully in the hands of a very happy stranger). To do this, I have made a lineup of some awesome coats, made by both bigger and smaller brand (for a range of accessibility) and made from some stunning materials that will treat you nicely for years to come. Not only are these natural fibre coats warmer than their synthetic twins, but they’re also great for the environment and are able to decompose once they reach the end of their lives. Although these natural materials can hike up the price, I embrace the motto: spend more, less often.
The top coat on my radar this season comes from the Swedish brand, The Curated, The Classic Coat. This gorgeous piece is made of cashmere and wool, is softer than a stick of butter, and comes in black, bone, and stunning camel colour.
J. Crew, one of my go-to brands, supplies a nice collection of easy-to-shop-sustainable items. This season, their Daphne topcoat in Italian boiled wool is a runner up for sustainable warmth and style.
Cos is another great shop to consider when keeping your wardrobe kind on the planet, they have really simple, easy to read, composition tags which I find delight more than fright when it comes to fibres. Uniqlo also comes in clutch with wool and cashmere items at an affordable price. The accessibility and natural composition is a superb combination when trying to spread the word on how shopping sustainably isn’t that hard.
